The Truck arrived, but was blocked out by the Engine Companies already on the scene. The crews quickly grabbed ground ladders, while the Driver repositioned around the other companies. The crew went to the 3rd floor and assited with opening up and chekcing for extension. The tillerman was finally able to make the roof and he quickly opened the same above the fire apartment. Wednesday, June 4, 2008 - We were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment involving a school bus at Crain Highway and Turkey Hill Road. RE13, E11, Chiefs 1 and 1B responded with 13 personnel. RE13 arrived on the scene with a 3 vehicle accident entrapment. The school bus had no passengers, however the driver was injured. Chief 1 arrived on the scene, established command and broke the ICS down to the appropriate divisions. RE13s crew quickly stabilized all vehicles, and began extrication efforts. All other companies were utilized to assist with the extrication of the two victims. Once extricated, all patients were handed over to the EMS Group and transported to the most appropriate facilities. While the companies were picking up, a severe thunderstorm blew through the area with extremely high winds. Before RE13 could return to quarters, they were sent to Waldorf on a house collapse, which turned out to be a tree on a house with no injuries. RE13 attempted one more time and was alerted as the third due Engine on a gas leak at Talley Jewelry (which happens to be our President’s store). Once the Engine companies arrived on the scene with the own water supplies, RE 13 was reassigned as the 1st due special service. RE13 arrived on the scene and was advised to go to the roof to check the HVAC units for a gas leak. The crew made the roof and found that the gas leak resulted from the roof membrane holding approximately 8 inches of water over the B exposure (PetsMart). The crew began efforts to release this water, before the building collapsed due to the weight. The water was released and the gas leak was mitigated. While RE13 was operating E12 responded to Waldorf for a house fire and assumed the Truck responsibilities, by venting the roof. All units returned to La Plata at 1930 hours, only to prepare for the second round of storms.
The second round of storms, brought 6 back to back AFAs and then a first due house fire. We were dispatched to 108 Hibiscus Court for the townhouse fire. First arriving Truck 1 found smoke conditions in the attic. The Truck crew evacuated the residence and utilized water cans to keep the fire in check until the arrival of the Engines Companies that were coming from other runs. Chief 1 arrived and estblished the command, and held Company 1 units to the fire building, while the other units checked the exposures. With all exposures checking out safely, Command held Co. 1 units only.
All units returned to quarters at 0143 hours. |

Friday, May 30, 2008 - We were alerted to respond as the first due Truck Company for the report of a building on fire in Waldorf. The Truck responded with 5 personnel. Waldorf E31 arrived with smoke showing, with a fire in the attic. When we arrived, the crew split with 2 members to the roof and 2 to the Bravo Exposure, while the Truck Driver completed the outside duties. Due to the fire in the attic, the roof team completed a trench cut on the rear half of the building and found no further extension. We completed the salvage and overhaul duties and returned to service at 1143 hours. The cause of the fire was electrical in nature and no injuries were reported. Thanks to Hughesville VFD for the pictures. |
