Life Member/Firefighter Mike Furman began a personal Fire Prevention initiative about 1 year ago when he developed a Fire Prevention Super Hero known as “Flash Max.” Mike has always had a driving desire to teach all ages about Fire Safety, especially the youth. Flash Max has made many appearances at schools, charity events, and visits with ill children to spread the word of Fire Safety and joy. Mike is employed by the Fairfax County, Virginia Fire Department, where he serves as a Master Technician on Truck 411. Mike’s Company Officer nominated him for a prestigious award due to his tireless efforts of designing and promoting Flash Max. On April 14th, 2016, Mike was notified that he was a recipient of the 2015 A. Heath Onthank Memorial Award from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and the Civil Service Commission. This award is the highest honor that Fairfax County bestows on its employees. Congratulations Mike, we are all very proud of you, and thank you for all that you do.
