On Sunday June 29th 2014, at 09:05 hours the La Plata volunteers were alerted along with surrounding companies to respond to 10875 Alyssa Lane in Waldorf for the possible house on fire. Truck 1 marked up shortly after dispatch, with 6 personnel. While Truck 1 was still responding, units arrived on scene and advised they had smoke showing from a two story, single family dwelling. Units advised further of moderate smoke conditions throughout the house, and after searching further located a fire in the basement. Truck 1 arrived on scene and took position on Chery Blossom Ct. to allow for better access to the rear of the structure. Upon arrival on scene Truck 1 assumed the “second due truck” responsibilities and split into two teams. Team 1 (Officer & Barman) entered the structure and performed a primary search, while Team 2 (Driver, Tillerman, & Hookmen) laddered the roof and threw ladders to every window on the second floor. Upon completing the primary search on the first and second floors, Team 1 proceeded to the basement to continue the primary search and control utilities. Once the primary search was completed and the electricity shut off via the circuit breaker, Team 1 was directed to assist in “opening up” and searching for hidden fire. While Team 1 was operating inside, Team 2 set up two negative pressure ventilation fans in the basement windows to assist with smoke removal and started removing burned/burning siding from side C of the home. Once the fire was deemed “under control” Command held Companies 3 & 12, and Trucks 1 & 11 to complete overhaul and assist the fire marshal with his investigation. Truck Co. 1 cleared the scene at 11:42 hours.
